Texas Human Trafficking Prevention and Safe Response for Healthcare Professionals
Recognize potential warning signs. Respond safely. Protect patient dignity.
This course prepares healthcare professionals to recognize possible human trafficking and respond with compassion, confidence, and appropriate professional boundaries. Participants learn about sex and labor trafficking, factors that increase vulnerability, and potential physical, behavioral, and emotional indicators without relying on stereotypes or treating a single warning sign as proof.
The training emphasizes a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach that prioritizes safety, privacy, and respectful communication. Learners explore how to create opportunities for private conversations, recognize immediate needs, and connect patients with appropriate support without confrontation or pressure to disclose their experiences.
Topics include Texas reporting responsibilities, HIPAA and confidentiality considerations, objective documentation, safe referrals, and staff safety. Practical healthcare scenarios help participants understand how responses may differ for children, vulnerable adults, and adults who can make their own decisions, including situations in which a patient declines additional assistance. Throughout the course, the focus remains on providing safe care, following established procedures, and staying within the learner’s professional role.
